So, what does a woman know about neckties?
I grew up during the New Wave years, when even women wore neckties, so I asked my dad to teach me how to tie a tie. He stood me in front of him in front of mirror, and tied a tie on me. Then he showed me how to slip it off without untying it, and told me "there you go!" It didn't take much practice and then I could tie my own neckties.
Then I went to college and majored in costume and found out that often I could tie a necktie and the actors that I was helping get dressed could not. I taught a lot of guys how to tie ties in college. When I do the thing where I have the person stand in front of me and I tie it on them, I have to stand on a chair, as I'm really short... LOL...!
Men's neckwear hasn't really changed all that much over the last century. Men's shirts have collars that are now sewn on, instead of buttoning onto a collarless shirt. Ties go through phases of getting a bit longer or shorter, or a tad wider or narrower, but overall, they don't change that much.

I am a single mom and the actual video wasthe best help. My son is 5 and loves to wear ties to church and any other time he can. So I have to learn to tie so he can tie it.
I loved reading this! I know how to tie a tie with no issues, but I was curious when I read this title on how you explained it. This is really great for both men and women.I remember at time in a class full of motorcycling men, we had the choice of two presentations: 1) show the class how to tie their shoes or 2) show the class how to tie a tie. It was a presentation to access our teaching abilities in front of people we did not know.Since I once lived in England where the uniform included a tie, I decided to teach them how to tie a tie.... not only tie the tie but tie a double windsor knotted one. They all loved it and took their ties home for future use LOL (all tied up of course)Oh, I was the only one who picked that option (tying a tie) and was also the only woman in the class!! Needless to say I passed with tying colours LOL
This is great. I'm going to send this to my son's roommate. He's in a job that requires a suit most days, but doesn't know how to tie his tie so he takes it off by loosening it and taking it off over his head nightly. This is a skill he needs to master.
