Touring Spooky Seattle
Whether you like old sites, hauntings or spots that are just sort of creepy, Seattle has lots of offer. Founded around 1851, the city suffered a massive fire in 1889 that burned pretty much everything to the ground. One of the results of this is a neat modern tour of "underground Seattle" where you can walk around in some of the basements and subbasements that date back to the original construction.
Seattle also boasts one of the oldest, continuous operating farmer's markets in the US, and along with that pedigree, Pike Place Market has some ghosts of its own. Whether you are touring creepy spots above or below ground in Seattle, remember to wear sensible footwear and bring along rain gear no matter what time of year. For night tours, bring along your own flashlight.
And let's not forget the fun but ooky too. The Fremont Troll is a somewhat creepy sculpture that can be found lurking under the bridge in the Fremont neighborhood, and he's even got his own celebration at Halloween time.

Seattle Gravesites
Nothing seems to bring a universal mixture of creepiness and fascination that way that old graveyards do, and Seattle's got a few fantastic spots to check out!
Historic Lake View Cemetery is where you can find the graves of many of Seattle's founding families, along with celebrities Bruce and Brandon Lee. Father and son both died tragically early and have been laid to rest side by side. Famous 90s rocker Kurt Cobain was cremated following his death, so there isn't a grave to visit, but many fans do like to stop by the house where he died, located alongside Lake Washington.
If you don't mind traveling a bit outside the city, 60s guitar virtuoso Jimi Hendrix was laid to rest in Renton, WA at Greenwood Cemetery. For many years, the musician's fans visited and found a simple headstone, but more recently the grave was moved from the original burial site to another part of the cemetery and a larger and more elaborate memorial was constructed.
The Chinatown Massacre
Seattle's Murder and Mystery Tour
After doing one of the ghost tours with Private Eye Tours, we had so much fun that my friends and I decided we'd go on the murder and mystery tour that they offer. These tours take place in the afternoon (the ghost tours are at night) and again it was in a van, so you got to literally cover a lot of ground. There are several stops where you get out and get to take a close look at some of the notorious or famous locations.
This tour covers more of the modern mysteries in Seattle, with details of both solved and unsolved crimes and strange happenings. Most of the events are post-World War II but only a hardcore local who kept their ear to the ground would even remember half of what you learn about on this tour.

I lived in Seattle for about 10 years, did not know all the history and sites to see, I was to busy working. Now I have to check these out as a tourist. Oh well. Really cool hub, thanks for the layout.
Interesting hub! I travel to Seattle frequently and I think I'll add a few of these to my list of things to do while there. I had no idea Bruce and Brandon Lee were buried there and I never heard of the Green River killer, but I'm going to look it up now. I sometimes run on the trail along the Green River while I'm there. Cheers, MU
Our city is quite morbid, when you get down to it :). I would love to check out the Pike Place Market ghost tour sometime; the market is creepy at night!
Hey dont forget the best ghost tour of seattle hosted by real ghost hunters.
Spooked in Seattle Ghost Tours
Thanks for the great information referencing the interesting tour locations. I am returning back home after many years away in the military and I have visited everywhere except the Ted Bundy kidnapping and Kurt Cobain rental...need to check them out.
Yea does rain a lot there and yet Washington is one of my favorite states! I knew Seattle can be dark and creepy sometimes, but I had no idea about the underground tour! Thanks for sharing!
While living in Seattle I took the underground city tour and loved it! I used to hang out at Lake Sammamish State which is kinda scary since Ted Bundy abducted girls from there. Great Hub. If I ever get back to Seattle I would love to do some of the Ghost tours.
A strange as it may seem, people are really drawn to these types of things; like car wrecks!
Relache, once again great information. I never think like that before.
I spent some time in Seattle mostly looking at the "Brooks Stevens" car museum so somehow missed all the grim stuff.
I did witness a freak accident when a lady cleaning an upstairs window fell to the ground seriously hurting herself.
I remember that the emergency team arrived in minutes.
I enjoyed Seattle.
Relache, I have friends who live in Seattle and they love it! Hope to go there on my next vacation. I also have a fascination with cemeteries....(insert spooky music here!)
This is a great alternative to the more traditional tourist tour! I think after all that, I would definitely be 'Sleepless in Seattle'!
I think I can visit any cemetery during broad daylight only! I am not that brave when it's dark, lol.
To be able to pay my respects to Bruce Lee would have made the trip worth it all. I have been a fan of his ever since he broke into the silver screen . I also share in his philosophy not only in the martial arts but life in general as many countless others do.
Relache - Great going on this. I am happy to say that I have hit every single morbid place and I would do it all again. Very fun hub!
How cool! I'm dying to go to Seattle, and all of these spots are great. Also, props on going for morbid variation! It's nice to see a mixture of modern and older elements on your sightseeing hitlist.
I don't know if I will ever get to seatttle but it does have a history.
Thank you for your wonderful tour and well describing hub.
Cool This sounds like fun
I'm not thrilled about gray clouds and overcast skies, relache, but this tour of Seattle, Bing Crosby's birthplace, is one I would definitely like to take. Cemeteries are always fascinating.

I just moved back to Seattle so I'll have to check out some of these places. I've always wanted to do the underground tour. I'm just waiting for my son to start walking. He's way too heavy to carry, but my favorite place of all times is the Pike Place Market. I'll be heading there tomorrow if the weather cooperates. Thanks for sharing.
