The Best James Bond Movies
78The name is Bond... James Bond.
Overall, I really like the James Bond movie series. Did you know that it's the second most-successful movie franchise ever created? It's been in near-constant production since 1962. So far there have been twenty-two official Bond movies, and three unofficial ones, and the twenty-third movie ("Skyfall") is in production. That's six different Bond actors (seven if you count the unofficials), a few dozen villains, a gaggle of Bond girls and enough high-tech gadgets to put the Sharper Image catalog folks out of business. Come to think of it, Bond may have a lot to do with them staying in business...
If you've never seen a Bond film, or if you've only seen a few, here are my top five recommended favorites.
(Much like cookies or potato chips, you often can't stop at just one! )

GOLDFINGER - 1964
In this installment, James Bond (Sean Connery) is on the trail of industrialist and gold bullion dealer Auric Goldfinger, trying to figure out how the businessman is smuggling gold internationally. What he then uncovers is a plot to contaminate the entire gold supply at Fort Knox.
Villains - In addition to Mr. Goldfinger, who tries to laser Bond in half, there is his trusty man servant Odd Job, who never talks but wields a steel-edged bowler as his Frisbee-like weapon of choice.
Bond Girl - Actress Honor Blackman (which is like a Bond girl name in itself) plays Goldfinger's personal pilot, Pussy Galore. There is also Jill Masterson (Shirley Eaton), an associate of Goldfinger's who Bond seduces and is forced to pay the price: she is found dead, painted over entirely in gold.

LIVE AND LET DIE - 1973
With Roger Moore taking up the reins as the Britsh agent, 007 must track down Kanaga (Yaphet Koto) and find the source of his massive herion supply before it hits the world market. His chase takes him from Harlem to New Orleans to a Caribbean island.
Villains - In addtion to Kanaga, there are his henchmen Tee Hee (who has a nasty steel claw for one hand), the voodoo priest Baron Samedi (Geoffrey Holder) and a literal heavy named Whisper.
Bond Girl - This movie features then-21-year-old Jane Seymour as the psychic, tarot card reader Solitare. The only catch is that if she loses her virginity, she'll lose her powers... (I think you can all guess what James Bond did with that piece of intelligence)
A VIEW TO A KILL - 1985
In Roger Moore's last outing as Bond, 007 is investigating a new type of microchip that can withstand the EMP effects of nuclear blast. He soon finds out that Max Zorin (Christopher Walken) is masterminding the destruction of California's Silicon Valley to corner the world's computer market.
Villains - In addition to Zorin, Bond has to beware of his henchwoman May Day, played by the stylish disco diva Grace Jones. She hits some really perfect notes as an over-the-top sidekick and is one of the few villain women who's ever gotten to bed Bond himself.
Bond Girl - Tanya Roberts plays Stacey Sutton. Her family's company was taken over by Zorin Industries, and she now works as a geologist. She teams up with Bond to stop Zorin. Compared to most Bond girls, she is somewhat tame.

GOLDENEYE - 1995
Pierce Brosnan's first foray as Bond was the series' biggest grossing entry up to that point. It opens with 007 and his fellow agent 006 (Sean Bean) on a mission at a Russian chemical factory. 006 is captured and shot but Bond manages to escape. Nine years later, M (Judi Densch) sends Bond to investigate who is trying to take over the Goldeneye satellite, and Bond learns his old friend is alive and now his foe.
Villains - Sean Bean is excellent as 006/Alex Treveylan, Bond's former best friend. He also gets classic bad guy dialog such as "Why can't you be a good boy and just die?!" Famke Jansen gets to wield "killer" thighs as Xenia Onatopp, Treveylan's henchwoman.
Bond Girl - Bond gets Natalya Simonova (Izabella Scorupco), a former Russian satellite programmer.

CASINO ROYALE - 2006
After the movie makers decided to go with a new actor for James Bond, they also decided to re-energize the franchise by going back to Bond's roots, to his days as a new double-O agent. Actor Daniel Craig got the part, and they went right back to Ian Fleming's first novel, CASINO ROYALE, where 007 must try to stop a terrorist banker/financier from winning a high-stakes poker match.
Villains - Mad Mikkelsen plays Le Chiffre, who has the distinction of being able to bleed tears of blood. He likes high-stakes poker, and he'll go right for your balls if there's some info you have that he wants.
Bond Girl - Bond loses his heart to Vesper Lynd (Eva Green), the treasury officer assigned to keep an eye on the money Bond is waging. She also gets to break his heart at the end, thus ensuring our hero will become the cynical hardened agent we know and love.

Which Is Your Favorite James Bond Film?Loading...
daniel craig is the best bond ever , there is a pace in the movie. after watching casino royale u can easily understand that those sean connery movies could be made an 1 hour film. Unlike using those fictional gadgets in the previous films, he is damn smart in the role and what else do u expect? yes, brosnan is also good, i rate him 2nd, and sean connery 3rd.
being a fan of craig, i must say quantum of solace was so bad as good casino royale is. looking forward to skyfall, or the next one, whateva its name is.
I love all james bond movies but my all time favorite is World is not enough.
You've got some unusual choices. A View to a Kill comes out at the bottom of most people's lists.
My top five:
From Russia With Love
Goldeneye
Casino Royale
The Spy Who Loved Me
The Living Daylights
1-goldfinger
2-casino royale
3-On Her Majesty's Secret Service
4-From Russia with Love
5-thunderball
you cant compare daniel craig to the other actors, hes playing a different character(james as an early 00agent. The stuff that happened with vesper in casino royale is what made james cold and a womanizer. so watch craigs movies again without expecting the bond we all love. And roger moore sucks.
Great list, I like any Bond film that doesn't include Halle Berry and Charlie Sheen's ex wife (what her name?)...
My five are - 1.the spy who loved me.2.golden eye 3.goldfinger 4.casino royale 5.the living daylights. My 5 bonds are - 1.connery/moore.2craig/dalton.3brosnan.4.lazenby
can't agree with view to a kill, any list is PURELY personal, I do tend to think now that sean connery was pretty good, first one and all that, but AVTAK is a mix of good and poor, nice french chateux, eiffel tower and golden gate, but the rest was pretty much wanting, he was past it and he knew it.
where would bond be without john barry, I liked RM's humour, FYEO was pretty good, spy who loved me should be there, all the ingredients, near flawless bond. brosnan is wooden and cold and can't act. not seen craig, but I don't like an overt technical and cold bond, he HAS to have some character and warmth, hence my gravitating to moore.
I do accept your suggestions except Daniel Craig as Bond.
His movies are Action oriented but are not in Bond Style.
Bond mostly wont get hurt, always in suits, use gadgets.
All are missing in his movies.
Best Bond is Pierce Brosnan :)
Although I wasn't that keen on Pierce Brosnan as James Bond I do rate Goldeneye as my favourite Bond movie, probably because it wiped out some of the memories of the corny Bond movies which went before it.
Though to combine my favourite Bond movie with my favourite Bond actor it would have to be Sean Connery in Goldfinger.
Where is Thunderball? Underrated Bond film as far as I am concerned.
As far as I'm concerned, as the old ads used to say, "Sean Connery IS James Bond"... first, last and always. My vote for favorite films are Thunderball, From Russia With Love, Dr. No, and Goldfinger in that order. For my money, Roger Moore was way too soft and mannered to be a true Bond, and Pierce Brosnan is too pretty. Daniel Craig has that classic Bond combination of suaveness / coldness/ bad ass that makes him a great candidate to further the genre. For me, everyone between Connery and Craig is a blur!
Timmothy Dalton is my favourite bond and he isn't that violent! his movies are the best. OHMSS sucks George Lazemby is a clown in that movie!
My personal favourites are On Her Majesty's Secret Service and The Man With the Golden Gun. I love all the action and scenery in these films, especially the downhill skiing sequences.
For me there is something I love in all the James Bond movies. For example, in Octopussy I really enjoyed the footage taken in India.
Of the recent 007 movies I much prefer Daniel Craig to Pierce Brosnan - I feel he gives a more accurate feel to the James Bond character.
1). Casino Royale
2). Quantum of Solace
3). Golden Eye
4). Living Daylight
5). World is not enough.
I've seen then all. The first one I saw though was Goldeneye which is my absolute favorite.
I also liked GOLDFINGER. The movie sound track intro is also the best. Gold Finga - I want to watch it again whenever I hear it. The Bond films of today seem to rely more upon visual images like 'hot bods' coming out of the water. But Ursula was super too.
my favorite is "from russia with love". it's a portrait of an era, and it simply couldn't be replicated in modern times.
why no love for "On Her Majesty's Secret Service"?
ithunderball
2from russia with love
3you only live twice
4for your eyes only
5license to kill
6goldfinger
7live and let die
8the world is not enough
9dr no
10n his magestys secret service
None of Roger Moore's should make anyone's top five. And From Russia with Love is easily Connery's best. My favorite is The Living Daylights, but I won't claim it's the best in the series.
I love what their doing with Daniel Craig's Bond. Connery's early stuff is classic and I love how they capture the 60's. Moore's whit is always a good time. Dalton and Bronson put forth good efforts but never really convinced me they were Bond.
Surprised to see " a view to a kill" on anyones list. this movie is rated as the worst Bond film ever. My personal favorite is The man with the golden gun. Similar to Goldfinger, with his unique set of attributes, killing styles, and smaller side kick. But I think the best bond is Sean Connery, Pierce Brosnen and Daniel Craig don't even come close
Goldfinger is my favorite, and I loved Live and Let Die. Wasn't that crazy about View to a Kill. Nice hub.
my son is a big James Bond fan and when I showed him this hub I couldn't get my PC back for ages!
Becca
Nice write-up. I wrote a few hubs on Bond, too. He really is a(n) (anti-)hero that crosses generations. I came aboard the Bond train during Moore's conductorship. It's fun to see how time, money, and the world has changed him. Thanks for a fun read.
Favorite Bond film I would have to say is Tomorrow Never Dies. I just like the stunts that Michelle Yeoh performs in that movie.
I loved die another day and the older flicks but the new...not so much. Daniel Craig is an excellent actor but the new movies aren't all that especially Quantum of solace.I like the bourne movies though.
Good choices overall, with a blend of contemporary and classic Bond. You can't really go wrong with "Goldfinger" and "Live and Let Die" and "Goldeneye" are also among my favorites in the series. For someone new to James Bond, I have to admit that "A View to a Kill" may not be Bond's best outing. Chris Walken makes a fine villain, but Roger Moore is practically held together by ducktape he's so old in that movie, not to mention totally unconvincing in any of the more athletic sequences. "Quantum of Solace" is also a departure for the Bond series, although I preferred "Casino Royale." Might I also suggest "The Living Daylights?" Dalton is quite underrated, and I think it is one of the best Bond movies.
WHEN I SAW GOLDEN EYE IN SAN FRANCISCO, THE WHOLE AUDIENCE CHEERED AT THAT MOTORCYCLE PLANE STUNT!!!! STUNT PEOPLE SHOULD GET OSCARS!

Man with the Golden Gun. Definately Moores best film.
